Treat yourself to the bewitching sight of barred spiral galaxy M83 — which comes alive with detail in this new image by the Webb telescope’s MIRI instrument.

Look closer at the creeping tendrils of gas, dust and stars. Bright blue dots show the distribution of stars, concentrated at the core of the galaxy. Meanwhile, patches of yellow indicate where new stars are forming.
