Universe images by Knut

The M51 is 23 MLY from us in Canis Venatici, Mag 9,0. The companion on top is NGC 5195. The spiral structure is believed to be caused by the interacdtion with the companion galaxy NGC5195. If you look closely on the large picture, you will find many more galaxies.
